QEM for ToT

 

This training of trainers (ToT) workshop and training programs are designed for Quality, Evaluation and Monitoring and evaluation (QEM) of different medical and public health issues to support junior and senior managers and specialists in medical and health care sector. These include field officers placed in-country by national and international partner specialists  and agencies. Our target groups professionals working in national, regional, and local government and private agencies and non governmental organizations; staff located at headquarters of international partner agencies; and other practitioners interested in QEM programs.

Training Description

RATIONALE
Policymakers, program staff and researchers face many questions related to Quality monitoring and evaluation (QEM) of population, health and nutrition programs. QEM skills are fundamental to the process of designing and implementing programs, analyzing and using data, and conducting advocacy for population and health programs.  In order to build the capacity of QEM professionals who are actively engaged in the health sector, a one week course will provide training in QEM systems and the application of QEM data to decision-making in population and health programming. A plan for effectively communicating the information will be integral to discussions.

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

•Conduct a sound SWOT analyses

•Identify decisions related to population and health programs that can be informed by QEM  results;

•Formulate questions that need to be answered in order to make informed decisions;

•Develop realistic, useful and targeted goals and objectives;

•Understand and be able to select indicators appropriate for a given program;

•Understand information systems and the flow of data;

•Understand data quality and its role in QEM;

•Disseminate and use QEM information strategically;

•Gain understanding on how to use analytical tools and software;

•Hands on training of statistical packages

•Develop QEM Plan design.

WORKSHOP CONTENTS
The workshop offers intensive training that will cover the fundamental concepts and tools for QEM  in Population & Health programs.

The workshop will include sessions on:
•The Role of Strategic Information in Decision Making;
•M&E Frameworks;
•Indicator Selection and Interpretation;
•Methods / Sources of Verification;
•Assessment of Data Quality
•Developing QEM Plans and Facilitating the Use of Strategic Information,
•Use of statistical packages for data analysis.

Hands-on experience in designing monitoring and evaluation plans will be gained by doing exercises, and working in small groups throughout the workshop. The participant groups will present the results of their projects and exercises during the workshop.

 

ELIGIBILITY
The course is designed for national and sub-national level QEM  professionals and their counterparts, assistants and advisors who are involved with the implementation of Reproductive Health, Child Survival, HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Malaria, TB and other social sector programs. Applicants should be proficient in English, have some analytical skills, and have current responsibilities for developing program monitoring plans and/or evaluation programs.  Computer literacy and experience with data systems would be an advantage.

 

Staff

This workshop will be taught by academic and professional experts from different national and international universities, organizations and institutions.

Guest instructors from other government and non-government agencies working in reproductive health and other related fields may also join the core instructional team.

COURSE FEES
The fee for the workshop is 4800 EGP or  $800. This fee covers participation in the workshop and the workshop materials, tea breaks, and group lunches. It does not include travel costs and accommodation. Fees are payable latest by October 10, 2014. Successful applicants shall receive the bank details to make payment.

FUNDING
Prospective applicants are advised to seek funding from their home organizations, or from national or international agencies.  Limited Fellowships are available from QEM. Applicants who have requested funding should submit their application forms to meet the deadline, and copies of application materials should be submitted directly to those agencies. When funding is confirmed, the applicant should inform the Workshop coordinator.
